ABSTRACT

As cruise ships call at many ports and passengers come from all over the world, it is very easy to carry viruses on cruise ships. Under the control of the epidemic situation on board, the solid waste generated by them should be scientifically treated to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as COVID-19 pneumonia. Therefore, Reasonable selection of waste disposal ports and formulation of unloading plans are directly related to the resumption of cruise operations. This study considers the cost and risk of waste disposal, uses robust optimization to deal with waste volume, increases the scenarios of port service interruption due to epidemics and other reasons, and proposes a variety of emergency strategies. Finally, the relevant strategies are selected according to the decision-maker's preference for cost and risk;By solving the relevant examples, the optimal choice of the cruise ship waste disposal port under the epidemic situation is given, which verifies the validity and feasibility of the model. The research helps to improve the management of cruise waste during the post-epidemic period, and has practical value and guiding significance for the normal operation and development of the global cruise market. © 2023 SPIE.

ABSTRACT

In the post-epidemic era, the trend of digital transformation on consumer services has promoted the fresh industry model upgrade and changed the food market space, and then given rise to diversified life demands. As the significant frontier for the spread of COVID-19 in China, the Wuhan food market is a microcosm of the changes in China's urban space, which is worth pondering. This study interpreted consumers' perception and identity in the food market from the perspective of consumer behavior and explained the connotation development of urban consumer service spatially, taking Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China as the case. The results showed that COVID-19 affected consumers' perception and emotional attitudes toward space, through the direct action on those behaviors and wishes, and reconstructed the spatial identity of Wuhan food markets in the post-epidemic era. In this era, consumers' perception of the food market was being more multi-dimensional and optimistic. They showed less sensitivity to the authenticity of traditional farmers' markets, while more interest in new retail spaces featured with leisure and sociality, such as fresh supermarkets and hypermarkets. They also emphasized more group space identity of small-scale community-level markets. From the Chinese case to the global perspective, this study proposed that the development of urban consumer services in the post-epidemic era was diversified and changeable, while the authenticity and stability of local food culture provided a flexible and extended space for such changes. The results and conclusions of this study will help to identify the Chinese characteristics and trends of consumer behavior in the post-epidemic era and provide a reference for the quality of living and the planning of urban spatial development, and provide China's case for global economic and social recovery after this epidemic. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.

ABSTRACT

In response to various ethical problems that emerged after the 1976 Ebola hemorrhagic fever epidemic, WHO published the book Guidance for Managing Ethical Issues in Infectious Disease Outbreaks in 2016. The content of the book was organized around seven ethical principles, namely, justice, beneficence, benefit, respect for autonomy, freedom, reciprocity, and unity. These seven ethical principles can be used as a framework for countries to develop policies for coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing from contemporary Mohism, this paper reflects on the situation in Taiwan through the lens of these seven ethical principles. It aims to arrive at a Mohist understanding of bioethics and proposes concrete actions for the post-epidemic era.

ABSTRACT

China's energy structure is dominated by fossil fuels, especially coal consumption, which accounts for a relatively high share. In January 2020, the COVID-19 outbreak affected the global coal market, and many countries experienced negative economic growth. Economic development requires energy consumption. In 2021, China set a target of peaking carbon emissions by 2030 in order to phase out the dependence of carbon emissions on economic development. Therefore, the aim of this article is to develop directions for the sustainable development of China's coal industry. Based on the macroenvironment and situation analysis, the article concludes that, under the influence of geopolitics, China's shortage of imported coal resources and China's continuous rise in coal demand, the share of coal in China's energy structure will not decrease significantly in the long-term. The main directions for the sustainable development of China's coal industry are to ensure the safety of coal energy storage and improve the level of safety supervision;coordinate the development of regional energy;increase the clean, efficient, and low-carbon utilization of coal;and strengthen international coal strategic cooperation.

ABSTRACT

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has disrupted health, economy, and society globally. Thus, many countries, including China, have adopted lockdowns to prevent the epidemic, which has limited human activities while affecting air quality. These affects have received attention from academics, but very few studies have focused on western China, with a lack of comparative studies across lockdown periods. Accordingly, this study examines the effects of lockdowns on air quality and pollution, using the hourly and daily air monitoring data collected from Lanzhou, a large city in Northwest China. The results indicate an overall improvement in air quality during the three lockdowns compared to the average air quality in the recent years, as well as reduced PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, and CO concentrations with different rates and increased O3 concentration. During lockdowns, Lanzhou's "morning peak" of air pollution was alleviated, while the spatial characteristics remained unchanged. Further, ordered multi-classification logistic regression models to explore the mechanisms by which socioeconomic backgrounds and epidemic circumstances influence air quality revealed that the increment in population density significantly aggravated air pollution, while the presence of new cases in Lanzhou, and medium- and high-risk areas in the given district or county both increase the likelihood of air quality improvement in different degrees. These findings contribute to the understanding of the impact of lockdown on air quality, and propose policy suggestions to control air pollution and achieve green development in the post-epidemic era.

ABSTRACT

Since entering the post-epidemic era of COVID-19 at the end of 2021, schools have mostly adopted a combined online and offline teaching mode to effectively respond to the normalized epidemic, which has changed the traditional learning mode of students. Based on the study demand-resources (SD-R) model theory, this study developed a research model and proposed six research hypotheses to explore the relationship between Chinese university students' perceived teacher support (PTS), online academic self-efficacy (OAS-E), online academic emotions (OAE), sustainable online learning engagement (SOLE), and online academic persistence (OAP) in the post-epidemic era. In this study, 593 Chinese university students were invited to respond to a questionnaire survey using the convenience sampling method. The results of the study showed that: PTS had a positive effect on OAS-E and OAE; OAS-E had a positive effect on OAE; OAS-E and OAE had a positive effect on the students' SOLE; and SOLE had a positive effect on their OAP. Based on the analysis, it is recommended that teachers provide more support and resources to further enhance students' academic self-efficacy and academic emotions, and thus ensure students' SOLE and OAP.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: To unearth superior countermeasures that improve psychological health and upgrade the quality of employment for medical students in China in post-epidemic era, this study was designed to determine the possible factors affecting psychological status and future career choice of this population. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was carried out. Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) and Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) were applied to measure psychological state. Chi-square and logistic regression analyses were adopted to filtrate related factors for psychological health and employment intention. Results: A total of 936 medical students, including 522 from eastern universities and 414 from western universities, were enrolled in the study. Anxiety among students in China's western universities was higher than that in China's eastern universities (30.4% vs. 22.0%), but no differences in the occurrences of stress (11.4% vs. 13.4%), depression (28.7% vs. 24.5%) and insomnia (30.7% vs. 25.7%). Grades, academic ranking, household income, attitudes about COVID-19 were associated with the occurrence of psychological problems. In addition, major, education level, academic ranking, family income, and clinical experience may affect the choice of future employment location and employment income. Notably, household income affected by COVID-19 and the perception of epidemic prevention and control resulted in changes in future employment region and income. COVID-19 can lead medical students with psychological problems to have a negative attitude toward future employment. Encouragingly, multiple activities, namely, proactive consideration of employment, taking part in career planning training lectures and timely adjustment of career planning, were beneficial to the professional identity of medical students. Conclusion: This study suggests that medical student psychology is influenced by COVID-19 and academic and financial pressures; actively coping with COVID-19 and making career planning in advance will contribute to optimizing future employment. Our findings provide a potent guideline for relevant departments to accurately adjust job deployment and for medical students to actively choose a career in the future.

ABSTRACT

Affected by the epidemic situation of COVID-19, colleges and universities have adopted online teaching methods one after another, so teachers and students have the opportunity to experience the whole online teaching process. After the COVID-19 come to an end, online teaching will continue to have a corresponding impact on teachers' teaching and students' learning, and will also promote the deepening reform of online teaching. The combination of online and offline modes of instruction is bound to become the normalization mode of college curriculum teaching in the post-epidemic era. Taking the course 'Fundamentals of Programming' as an example, this paper makes an attempt to implement 'online and offline mixed' teaching, so as to study and practice the curriculum reform in the post-epidemic era. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Hospitals that admit patients with COVID-19 face the challenge of not only dealing with these patients but also balancing normal medical care and hospital management to cope with the challenges posed by the new post-epidemic era. Over the past two years of responding to COVID-19 as a front-line clinical nurse, my colleagues and I have fully appreciated the need to establish a nursing system that is appropriate for the new post-epidemic era. The following four aspects should be emphasized: i) the continuation of thorough infection control measures; ii) exploring new approaches to training for new recruits; iii) ensuring nursing workforce and improving the nursing capacity to cope with patients critically ill with COVID-19; and iv) teamwork and team care to provide nurses with timely psychological assistance.

ABSTRACT

In the past two years, the global epidemic of COVID-19 has broken the original operation order of the society, the economic downward trend has been increasingly acute, the pressure on medical and health care has continued to increase, the realistic communication between cultures has been at a standstill, and the network way of life has become the mainstream. Therefore, many brand-new problems need to be reconsidered and solved in front of the public. The emergence and persistence of the epidemic has brought a tremendous impact on the fashion culture industry, and the direction of the industry with trend consumption as the core has been gradually curbed. How to re-develop the fashion culture industry has become an issue that experts and scholars in relevant professional fields need to focus on. With the new characteristics of social culture in the post-epidemic era as the research background and China’s fashion culture industry as the research object, this paper analyzes the corresponding phenomena and data according to the objective situation of China’s fashion industry in the post-epidemic era, and elucidates the crisis and opportunities faced by China’s fashion culture industry. This paper discusses the development core, development direction and development goal of China’s fashion culture industry in the future from the present situation and demand of the industry. With the help of the "problem-based” research paradigm and according to the new situation formed by the industry, this paper puts forward the logical development chain of "rethinking", "reset" and "reshaping". This paper further demonstrates the train of thought of the reform of China’s fashion culture industry and the core essence of its benign development in the future, in order to provide some theoretical reference for the transformation research of China’s fashion culture industry. The research shows that in response to the arrival of the post-epidemic era, China’s fashion culture industry needs to change its development focus from "consumerism" to "cultural economy", and attach importance to the great value that Chinese traditional excellent culture brings to the fashion culture industry, realize the common development of cultural communication and economic benefits, and reshape the image of Chinese fashion culture industry in the new era. The purpose of this article is to give a practical strategy and scheme response to the acute problems exposed by China’s fashion culture industry under the influence of the current COVID-19 epidemic. The interpretation of the problem and the analysis of the phenomenon are more inclined to demonstrate from the specific cases of China’s fashion culture industry, rather than empty concepts or policy statements. The countermeasures and suggestions for the reconstruction of China’s fashion culture industry are the ideas and methods put forward from the social, economic and cultural perspectives, in hope of providing a comprehensive and feasible reference scheme for the development of China’s fashion culture industry. ABSTRACT

In the post-epidemic era, people's lives are gradually returning to normal, and travel is gradually resuming. The safe evacuation of cross-regional travelers in railway station has also attracted more and more attention, especially the evacuation behavior of college students in railway station. In this paper, considering the pedestrian dynamics mechanism in the emergency evacuation process during the COVID-19 normalized epidemic prevention and control, an Agent-based social force model was established to simulate the activities of college students in railway station. Combined with the virus infection transmission model, Monte Carlo simulation was used to calculate the total exposure time and the number of high-risk exposed people in the railway station evacuation process. In addition, sensitivity analysis was conducted on the total exposure time and the number of high-risk exposed people under 180 combinations of the number of initial infections, social distance, and the proportion of people wearing masks incorrectly. The results show that with the increase of social distances, the total exposure time and the number of high-risk exposures do not always decrease, but increase in some cases. The presence or absence of obstacles in the evacuation scene has no significant difference in the effects on total exposure time and the number of high-risk exposures. During the evacuation behavior of college students in railway station, choosing the appropriate number of lines can effectively reduce the total exposure time and the number of high-risk exposures. Finally, some policy suggestions are proposed to reduce the risk of virus transmission in the railway station evacuation process, such as choosing dynamic and reasonable social distance and the number of queues, and reducing obstacles.

ABSTRACT

In the fight against COVID-1 9, under the guidancc of medical professionalism, the majority of medical workers adhered to the scientific spirit of rigorous truth-seeking and innovation, and the humanitarian feelings of boundless love and dedication, and made outstanding contributions to prevention and control. However, the epidemic situation fluctuates repeatedly, the virus mutates frequently, and the risk of major public health emergencies has caused deep thinking on the cultivation of medical students’ professionalism. Medical students are the reserve force for the sustainable development of China’s medical and health undertakings. The times and society endow medical students with a more lofty and arduous historical mission, and also call for strengthening the cultivation of medical students’ professional spirit. Under the background of normalization of epidemic prevention and control, responding to the demands of the times, providing high-quality medical talents for the society, promoting building the doctor-patient desting community, and promoting the reality of the healthy China strategy, efforts to explore the path of cultivating medical students’ professionalism with “three combinations, two considerations and one emphasis”. © 2022, Editorial department of Chinese Medical Ethics. ABSTRACT

This paper summarized three developing conditions and five service modes of mental health social work in Shanghai by reading literature and investigating and interviewing the social work service of mental health medical institutions in Shanghai. Three challenges to mental health social work after COVID-19 were identified:firstly, the reduction of direct services led to a decrease in the number of service beneficiaries, and the effectiveness of services could not be guaranteed;secondly, the application of social work methods was forced to adjust, which challenges the service ability of social workers;thirdly, the expansion or increase of the scope of service objects and the insufficient number of social workers led to difficulties in service response. In view of the above challenges and problems, countermeasures are proposed:ensure the continuity of professional relationship and service effectiveness through flexible and diversified service methods;knit for social work online working ability training, increasing network service experience;the scope of service objects expanding gradually and multi-sectoral cooperation to prevent psychological problems in key groups;set up a volunteer team to serve mental health. © 2022, Editorial department of Chinese Medical Ethics. ABSTRACT

COVID-19 has revolutionized our lifestyle. Whether it is “Do Not Touch” or “Maintaining Social Distance”, there is a need for distance. Unless COVID-19 disappears automatically, we will have to change the way we live for a long time. The distance between people and things will be maintained by physical measures to make it safer, but the psychological dimension needs to be intimate. Therefore, closing the space between people and things through emotional design (whether physical or virtual) and the shortening the distance between people and the world around them is worthy of further discussion. This paper first reviews the concepts involved, then randomly selects two typical exhibitions for analysis and discussion, and finally puts forward conclusions and suggestions. Whether the audience’s experience meets expectations will determine the success of the exhibition to some extent. In the process of interaction, “touching” the real exhibits may still be unacceptable, but it can satisfy people’s curiosity and innate habits in other ways. As part of a previous study, we also hope that more readers will genuinely comment on this issue. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
